A crown is a special protective cap designed to look and feel like a natural tooth. Your dentist may recommend a crown if you have experienced significant damage to a tooth through advanced tooth decay or a traumatic injury.
First, your dentist will take an impression of your current tooth. They will send this away to a lab where a technician will create your custom crown. You will be fitted with a temporary crown.
Once your crown is ready, your dentist will fit it, restoring your tooth’s natural look and function. In cases of significant decay or damage, where there isn’t enough natural tooth structure remaining to support a crown, your dentist may secure a small post into the root canal before fitting the crown.
