Some patients have insufficient space for implants in their upper jaw near their molars and premolars. In these cases, the bone isn’t high enough, so the maxillary sinuses sit too low in the cheek.
To remedy this, your dental surgeon will take bone from another area of your body. In some cases, they may use donor or animal bone instead. They place the bone in between the jaw and the maxillary sinuses on either side of the patient’s nose to create a gap large enough to insert dental implants.
Following a sinus lift, it will take some time for the newly implanted bone to assimilate with the jaw. Once it is healed your implants can be inserted.
