White fillings are becoming increasingly popular as a method of improving the aesthetic appearance of a patient’s smile. Many patients come to us with several fillings already in place. Conventional fillings use a material called amalgam, a silvery metal alloy that darkens over time.
We use a tooth-coloured composite resin for fillings, which blends in with the rest of the tooth and those surrounding it. We can remove your amalgam fillings and replace them with white ones.
If you have any tooth decay present, your dentist will need to remove it before filling the tooth. They will numb the area with a local anaesthetic before using a small drill to remove the decayed tissue. Once the tooth is cleaned, the dentist will fill the cavity with the composite material and polish it for a smooth finish.
